Meghan came to do computers, so she helped students get set up with gmail accounts and asked them to write a short paragraph or two about students' families, and share them with us.
On Wednesday, we talked about the narrative essay and students read two examples of narrative essays. The main characteristics of the narrative essay include:
- Setting
- Characters
- Plot
- Narrator
- Problem/Conflict/Climax
Week 2 - Sept. 6
Due to the Labor Day holiday, we had a short week, but we continued with the narrative essay. Students worked in groups to identify parts of the essays and complete two types of graphic organizers. Those who finished early were encouraged to use the graphic organizers to brainstorm ideas for their narrative essays.
We finished up with some grammar, practicing the present perfect progressive. Students had to ask each other questions about how long they've (insert verb) and respond using for and/or since. Example:
Student A: How long have you been living in the U.S.?
Student B: I've been living here for almost two and a half years.
Student A: When did you arrive?
Student A: When did you arrive?
Student B: I've been here since March 2015.
